The Society for Mathematical Biology is pleased to announce Prof. Matthew Simpson, Professor of Mathematics at Queensland University of Technology, Australia, as Editor-in-Chief of the Bulletin of Mathematical Biology. Mat will take over as Editor-in-Chief on March 1, 2022.
Our sincere gratitude goes to the SMB members who stepped up to candidate for this role. We received many outstanding applications with great vision and leadership for the journal – and we hope to be able to work with all of them in another capacity in the future, either at the Bulletin or in Society leadership.
We are grateful to the members of the search committee who evaluated and interviewed the candidates, and especially Alan Hastings and Reinhard Laubenbacher who chaired this committee.
Alan and Reinhard are, of course, the outgoing Editors-in-Chief of the Bulletin. All of us here at the SMB are deeply indebted to both of them for their leadership, vision, and service to the Bulletin and the Society. During their tenure, the Bulletin has continuously developed to new heights. Article downloads monotonically increased during the past seven years with more 230,000 downloads in 2020, and this quality is reflected in our latest impact factor of 2.082.
We would also like to acknowledge and thank Helen Taylor, the BMB Managing Editor, who has been steering the Bulletin with a steady hand and incredible commitment and dedication for many years now. Helen will continue to work with Mat during his tenure at the helm of the Bulletin.
Please join us in thanking Helen, Alan and Reinhard, and in welcoming Mat into his new role of leading the Bulletin of Mathematical Biology during the next five years.
