ANNOUNCING A NEW INITIATIVE BY THE INTERCOLLEGIATE BIOMATHEMATICS ALLIANCE

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH GRANTS-Project BEAM.

The IBA is launching a new Undergraduate Research Grant program, called
Project BEAM (Biomathematics Education with Applications and Methods).

Project BEAM will provide funds to cultivate undergraduate research at
member institutions. There are two funding tracks:

Track I: Home institution matching required:

Faculty member is eligible up to $1,000, matching any institutional
funding. Students are eligible up to a total of $1,500, matching any
institutional funding for students. Up to $300 additional funding
towards publication fees will be awarded if the work is published in
Spora or Letters in Biomathematics.

Track II: No home institution matching required:

Faculty member is eligible for $400 research support funding or stipend.
Students are eligible up to a total of $1,000 stipend. Up to $100
additional funding will be awarded towards publication fees if the work
is published in Spora or Letters in Biomathematics.

Applications will be accepted for three grant periods, for Fall, Spring,
and Summer sessions.

For more information, visit www.biomathalliance.org

The IBA is proud to support and sponsor:

BEAM: Biomathematics Education with Applications and Methods Grant,
BEER: Biomathematics and Ecology Education and Research Symposium,

Subject: PhD Program: Disease Modelling, PharMetrX, Germany

Call for applications within the interdisciplinary PhD program PharMetrX

The Graduate Research Training Program PharMetrX: Pharmacometrics &
Computational Disease Modelling is an interdisciplinary PhD program
bridging pharmacy and mathematics. It aims at understanding the
drug-patient-disease interaction by analysing data of drug
concentration, effect and disease profiles of pre-clinical/clinical
trials and of therapeutic care.

We are currently inviting applications to start the PharMetrX Research+
Program or the PharMetrX Training+ Program.

The PharMetrX Research+ Program (Research + Training + Network)
comprises an excellent research environment in the vibrant Berlin/
Potsdam area, fascinating and innovative research projects in a highly
relevant field, truly transdisciplinary supervision, an individual
mentorship from one of the industry partners, a specifically tailored
training program of compact modules, a network of peers and a highly
competitive 3.5 years fellowship.

The PharMetrX Training+ Program (Training + Network) offers a
specifically tailored training program of compact modules that convey
the foundations in pharmacokinetics & pharmacodynamics, systems biology,
statistics etc. as well as a network of peers. It is open for PhD students
who have already started their PhD in the field of pharmacometrics or
will do so soon.

Both programs are open to candidates with a university degree in
pharmacy, mathematics/ statistics, bioinformatics, life sciences or
medicine. See www.PharMetrX.de for further details.

Deadline for applications: September 15th, 2018.

PharMetrX is a joint program of Freie Universität Berlin and the
Universität Potsdam, supported by a consortium of global research-driven
pharmaceutical companies.

We are recruiting a full-time postdoctoral fellow to work on an
Australian Research Council funded project that will involve the
development, derivation and simulation of particle-based and continuum
models for actomyosin dynamics. It is our goal to investigate
contractility and pattern formation in the cell cortex.

The project (CI: Dietmar Oelz, UQ,
people.smp.uq.edu.au/DietmarOelz/) will involve collaboration
with Alex Mogilner (NYU-Courant Institute). The applicant will have a
good background in Applied Mathematics, and a strong interest in Biology
and Cell Biology. The postdoctoral fellow will be hosted at the
University of Queensland (UQ, Brisbane, Australia).

Applicants should possess a PhD in the area of Mathematics/Physics/
Engineering with a specialisation in Applied Mathematics and evidence of
contribution to research, including publication of research in
peer-reviewed journals. Expert knowledge in the area of Mathematical
Biology is desirable.

All applicants must supply the following documents: Cover-letter, Resume
and Selection Criteria responses.
