The Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track, academic year (9-month) position at the Assistant Professor level. We seek a candidate with a track record of excellence and productivity in research who studies the consequences of climate change for the ecology of vector- or water-borne infectious diseases. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a rigorous, externally funded research program using theoretical or empirical approaches, and to participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Primary teaching responsibilities will include contributing to a core course in ecology, and upper-level courses in the successful candidate’s area of expertise.

The Odum School of Ecology is a leader in the areas of infectious disease and aquatic ecology, and enjoys close collaborations with two centers: The Center for Ecology of Infectious Diseases, which supports advanced quantitative analysis through working groups in mapping, modeling and disease forecasting, and the River Basin Center, which links aquatic research with real-world policy and management needs. We particularly encourage applications from candidates who would enhance linkages between these and other centers on campus, such as the Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases and the Georgia Initiative for Climate and Society.

To apply, candidates must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in ecology, biology, or a related field. Candidates should submit applications electronically at https://www.ugajobsearch.com/postings/139136. Applicants should be prepared to upload the following items in PDF format: (a) a cover letter that includes a statement about the candidate’s commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in ecology, (b) curriculum vitae, (c) a statement of research goals (2 pages max.), (d) a statement of teaching philosophy (2 pages max.), (e) 3 representative peer-reviewed journal articles, and (f) names and contact information (email, address and phone) for three referees. Applications should be received by 24 February 2020 to ensure full consideration. The start date for this position is no later than 1 August 2020.
