Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled mathematical modeller to join a new
Leverhulme Trust funded project working with an interdisciplinary team of scientists to
develop a modelling framework to solve reaction-diffusion models, within 3D cell
arrangements, extracted from 3D imaging data. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates
interested in mathematical biology and the use of mathematics to generate hypotheses. The
biological system under investigation will be the control of Arabidopsis root hair patterning.
You will be based in the University of Liverpool working with Dr. Natasha Savage and
collaborating with Dr Anthony Bishop and his team, in the University of Nottingham. You
should have a PhD in Applied Mathematics (or other relevant discipline) or be suitably trained
and qualified in Applied Mathematics (or other relevant discipline). The post is available until
November 2024 in the first instance with the possibility of a further extension.The Role
You will oversee all theoretical work within the project under the direct supervision of Dr
Natasha Savage. You will be encouraged and given time to undertake further training in
mathematics and computation, and to develop a strong familiarity with and knowledge of
biological literature appropriate to the project. As theoretical lead you will be expected to
foster and maintain a close collaborative relationship with the project’s plant science
colleagues, based in Nottingham, and to present and disseminate project results at meetings,
conferences and outreach events, as well as contributing to and writing scientific publications.
You will also be responsible for sharing annotated code plus the theoretical data in file
exchanges and data repositories during the publication process.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>The Team
With an interdisciplinary approach the successful candidate will be based in Liverpool working
alongside Dr Natasha Savage, as well as collaborating with Dr Anthony Bishopp and his group
in Nottingham. The two teams will work closely to address questions posed in the project
proposal.</p>
