Dissipative vortices are omnipresent in physical, chemical, and biological systems. Among those, e.g. hurricanes represent one of the most important examples of dissipative vortices in the atmospheric layer, while cardiac re-entry underly dangerous arrhythmias and fatal fibrillation.

Department of Computer Science, University of Liverpool, UK, offers 4 fully funded PhD positions for UK/EU students to start next academic year 2020/2021.

For candidates with suitable qualifications, Dr Irina Biktasheva https://cgi.csc.liv.ac.uk/~ivb/ will offer the following PhD projects:

    1. Optimal visualisation of cardiac re-entry in anatomically detailed models. (CS, Computer Graphics)
    2. Automatic conversion of CellML models into BeatBox modules. (CS)
    3. Anatomy induced dynamics of cardiac re-entry in MRI and micro-CT anatomy models. (CS, Computer Graphics, Computer Simulations, Applied Maths, Physics)
    4. Dynamics of dissipative vortices: response functions framework. (Applied Maths, Physics)
    5. Data analysis of hurricanes trajectories. (CS: Data Mining)

Interested candidates might apply online https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/study/postgraduate-research/how-to-apply/.

The deadline for this round of PhD applications is April 1, 2020.

Though applications will be kept considered until all 4 positions are filled, to increase your chances please applying before the deadline.

Whether you are eligible for the UK/EU scholarship, or have your own funding, if you are interested in doing the above projects, please do not hesitate to contact  Dr Irina Biktasheva (ivb at liverpool dot ac dot uk) to discuss the projects.
