Are you interested in how fishing communities, regional management, and Amazonian hydrography interact and contribute to the sustainability of fisheries for arapaima, the biggest fish in the Amazon basin? Then we have the project for you. Holly Kindsvater and Leandro Castello are looking for someoneĀ model integrated socio-ecological factors driving the dynamics of small-scale fisheries in the Brazilian Amazon. We are based in the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Conservation at Virginia Tech, a vibrant research community in beautiful Blacksburg, VA. Amazonian fieldwork is a possibility, but not required!
We are seeking either a PhD or postdoc for this project. The candidate must have a M.S. and ideally a background or interest in quantitative population ecology and fitting state-space models. Email Holly Kindsvater or Leandro Castello (hkindsvater at vt.edu or leandro at vt.edu) for more info. You can also visit the lab website here.
