The Institute of Mathematics in the Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science of Osnabrück University seeks to appoint an associate professor (termed for five years) in environmental systems modeling (pay grade W2), to commence on 1 April 2020 or at the earliest possible date.
Integrated environmental systems research is a focus research area of Osnabrück University. Responsibilities of faculty in this position include research in the area of environmental systems modeling, teaching (including classes in German), and service.
Responsibilities
The professorship will deal with process-based, mathematical, and application-oriented modeling of environmental systems. Research topics should be in the area of ecosystem functions, biogeochemistry, or chemodynamics. Methods should include spatial, geo-referenced, transport, or network models. Collaborations with research groups in the Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science, the Institute of Environmental Systems Research, or other Faculties will be welcome. The successful applicant will teach in the systems science degree programs (BSc Applied Systems Science, BSc Environmental Systems Science, MSC Environmental Systems and Resources Management).
Requirements
Successful applicants perform internationally visible research in at least one of the research topics mentioned above and have expertise in at least one of the modeling techniques mentioned above. Knowledge of connecting models with data and acquiring grants should be present. Experience in teaching the analysis, modeling, and simulation of dynamical systems is necessary.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a University degree, show a proven aptitude for teaching, have demonstrated an ability to engage independently in advanced academic research – as a rule by obtaining an outstanding PhD – and have a sustained publication record in research equivalent to the German Habilitation in accordance with section 25 para. 1 no. 4a of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act [NHG].
The position is available on a full-time or part-time basis.
